By way of introduction…
At age 66 (just a month and a half from 67) I’m going on my first mission trip this summer with members of our church choir, orchestra, drama team, sound technicians, various support personnel and some of the staff. We will be joined by choir and orchestra members from two other local churches.
We’re going to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Members of our church family have gone there twice before. I had no idea Canada was so pagan, so post-Christianity until our teams went there.
Our pastor explained to us that concerning Christianity, a majority of Canadians are in the “Been there, done that, got the T-shirt but am not going to wear it and definitely not interested in going backward” mindset. That’s even more of a challenge than going somewhere that has no prior exposure to Jesus.
These folks apparently aren’t passive in their rejection of Jesus Christ, they know about Him and not only don’t want any part of Him, many are actively engaged in keeping any reference to Him out of their society. They’re a tough nut to crack. I’m glad that part of the job isn’t up to us.
So as part of our preparation…
We’re going to classes lead by our Senior Pastor, Dr. Greg Pouncey (better known as Brother Greg) where we are learning about what to expect, how to share an effective testimony, how to prepare spiritually and of course, how to be flexible.
