"do not be worried about your life… Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself." Matthew 6 (NASB)

The Word and the Way

in Preparation, Sanctification

By way of introduction…

At age 66 (just a month and a half from 67)  I’m going on my first mission trip this summer with members of our church choir, orchestra, drama team, sound technicians, various support personnel and some of the staff. We will be joined by choir and orchestra members from two other local churches.

We’re going to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Members of our church family have gone there twice before. I had no idea Canada was so pagan, so post-Christianity until our teams went there.

Our pastor explained to us that concerning Christianity, a majority of Canadians are in the “Been there, done that, got the T-shirt but am not going to wear it and definitely not interested in going backward” mindset. That’s even more of a challenge than going somewhere that has no prior exposure to Jesus.

These folks apparently aren’t passive in their rejection of Jesus Christ, they know about Him and not only don’t want any part of Him, many are actively engaged in keeping any reference to Him out of their society. They’re a tough nut to crack. I’m glad that part of the job isn’t up to us.

So as part of our preparation…

We’re going to classes lead by our Senior Pastor, Dr. Greg Pouncey (better known as Brother Greg) where we are learning about what to expect, how to share an effective testimony, how to prepare spiritually and of course, how to be flexible.

Withholding Blessings — part 2

March 17, 2012 Love

Link to: Withholding Blessings Part 1 In his post, On Grudges and Generosity, Tony Reinke poses the question, “So what is it that corks the flow of grace to others?” His concludes there are three main things. They are envy, contempt and resentment. In part one I touched on envy and explored contempt. I revealed [...]

Withholding Blessings — part 1

March 13, 2012 Love

A (real life) friend shared an article on Facebook from John Piper’s blog site Desiring God. The post, On Grudges and Generosity, was authored by Tony Reinke who based his post on a Jonathan Edwards’ sermon The Terms of Prayer. Got that? So now I’m going to jump in with my two cents worth ‘cause [...]

A Facebook Exchange… Luci Russell What a doll baby!! You must be so proud. John R Wills @ ‎Luci Russell, she does indeed light up my life. I’m overwhelmingly blessed and humbled to be a part of her life. I’m in love. How wonderful that God provides us with more than enough love to continuously [...]

THROUGH the Valley

February 15, 2012 Observation

God’s plan for me won’t be pain free or even comfortable. He isn’t interested in my personal pleasure. My accomplishments are useless and my accolades are empty. His goal is to perfect His power in me and transform me into a suitable servant. My “self-sufficiency” is a delusion. I have no value to the kingdom [...]

PaintShop Pro X4 Wish I could remember exactly what I was doing when this happened. Bob Ross would call it “a happy little accident.” Directly from my SmugMug Evendozen.com gallery to the Cuckoo. Very cool!

Test from my phone

April 7, 2011 Lighter Fare

This is a test to see how this would work speaking into my phone. Not too bad although it seems to stop recording if I take a breath. That means a little preparation is in order. However handwriting and then quoting from what I’ve written would be a lot easier than typing on this keyboard. [...]

Celebrating Christmas Past

December 21, 2010 Lighter Fare

Lasting Impressions of Christmas With a special thanks to Mom, Dad and the rest of my family, immediate and extended, for making these memories possible. I don’t remember much about any particular childhood Christmases. I don’t remember any particular gifts except a wind up tank with big rubber treads that seemed, at least to my [...]

What a Month!

October 25, 2010 Personal

It’s hard to believe that more than a month has passed since I last wrote anything here. It’s been a really busy and significant time for me. My brother Bruce came from Maryland for eight days and helped me (or more correctly, I helped him) finish the remodel/refurbish on the house. It had gotten to [...]

Reflected Light

September 22, 2010 Inspiration

My purpose will be fulfilled in direct proportion to my willingness to take on the role of a reflector of the Light. My reason for being here, beyond loving and worshipping God, is to somehow be a reflection of the Light He shines on me.
